That's Not What It's For

It's true that some religions boil down to merely an adult version of Linus' blankey, basically nothing more than a placebo for the soul.

But when you believe in The Truth and The Truthgiver, it has nothing to do with that spiritual version of Soma:  it has everything to do with wanting only genuine Manna for your inner man.  Not to mention that some of the Truth dispensed to us (if we're willing to accept it) by the Truthgiver is anything but comforting:  how heartwarming is it to think that there are people you really care about who will eventually be cut off from Him and all His goodness because they chose to turn their back on His provision for their eternal welfare?  And who wants to love their enemy?  Does anyone really think that's uplifting?

No, in some ways, the truth is as unpalatable as cod liver oil. But it is nonetheless essential to Soul's health.
